Potamanthus luteus

Evo jedne velike i lepe jednodnevke. Ovaj "trorepi sulphur" je dugačak oko 2 cm, sa još tolikim repom. Nastanjuje veće reke umereno brzog toka. Iako
nimfa živi ispod kamenja poput stone-clingera, ne pripada toj grupi jednodnevki. Zapravo, vrlo ju je teško svrstati u bilo koju grupu, jer je po svom ponašanju i izgledu specifična. Zrela nimfa, obično tokom jula, ispuzi na priobalno kamenje i preobražava se u subimago nekoliko centimetara izvan vode. Imago je veoma sličan subimagu i zanimljviji je ribama jer tokom toplih letnjih večeri polaže jaja na vodu. Ovaj insekt je malo poznat mušičarima Evrope i Balkana.
Pretpostavljam da je to zbog toga što živi uglavnom u rejonu klena, u koji autori mušičarskih entomoloških knjiga i članaka doskora gotovo da nisu ni zalazili.

I have never seen one so do not know anything about them other than from books.

Potamanthus luteus is known as the Large Brown Backed Yellow Dun or Yellow Mayfly in the UK - but it is very rare and said to be present in
only one river - the River Wye. Said to be found chiefly in large rivers, often in side pools with a bottom of stones and sand. Larvae feed on detritus.

But my reference book sates key identification factor is: Vein A1 is forked; veins M2 and Cu1 are arched at their base

Luteus is not so rare, but it's hard to find and see. Nymphs are hiding between riverbed rocks and they are skilled runners. Their camouflage is quite good too, so it's very hard to see them. Duns and spinners seems to prefer dark, so it's hard to see them during a day. Their habitat is most often in areas where we fish for chub or asp, so it is one more reason why traditional salmonid/lovers are not familiar with this insect...

That is interesting the only UK river recorded to have P.luteus is the River Wye and it has chub also.

Često se srećem sa vodenim insektima, jer sam često na vodi. Upravo ovih dana se ovaj insekt pojavio nad rekama Srbije (i ostatka Evrope).
