The gadget in the photograph is the one I've been using for sometime to CDC flu. A post on the UKFF uses a similar idea.
It's made from what I know as a Bulldog paper clip and a block of foam. Super glue the foam into the clip and carefully split to half the depth of the clip - it works a treat and much cheaper than the Petijean model!

This is great tool, Ray. I use plastic hair clip, similar to Petitjean Magic tool. It costs about 0.1 euro in chinese stores. A gift from Mr. Tasic, another expert for alter materials and tools.

MM At 0.1 euro it costs about the same as mine - great.
I'm sure lots of fly tiers are like you & me and won't pay for the Petijean tool and have come up with alternatives.
