Hi Ray,
Exelent fly. This Fly was presented in my colection of old Flies from Bosnia as "PROTIN PAS". It is difficult to translate in English because of word "PROTA". The closest word in English is PRIEST. Word "PAS" means: BELT.
That'd give as closest translation as "PRIEST'S BELT". As a kid (mid 50-ties) I vividly remeber this fly and purple like material(from Priest's belt) that was used to make a body but it was usually made as Dry fly. This Fly was used in early spring and late autumn in the cloudy and rainy days. Usually they used Mustad hooks #15 or #16

Good to hear from you.

Protin Pas - the Priests belt - a good discription of the undelying colour of the fly when it is wet.

The Iron Bloa is a good wet fly pattern for the early season when the small dark stoneflies and Iron Blue Duns are hatching.

I can see it working tied as a dry fly with a suitable cock hackle.

I'm very hapy that you put this Fly because it was beleived that purple like fly doesn't exist in nature and in the past I've received some negative information about this fly. Many fisherman have told me that Purle fly is not posible. Now maybe some of them will beleive...
