| Hi Madjoni That one looks pretty good to me It is very similar to a pattern I tied when I last represented Wales in an international fly fishing competition on Lough Melvin, Ireland in 1992. Main difference is your pattern has a palmer hackle and a darker body. My pattern has caught a lot of fish for me over the years fished just under the surface and retrieved just slightly faster than the drifting boat. Friends who went to Ireland for the Mayfly fishing each year always wanted me to tie up some patterns for them. The photo of the pattern is attached | |

When boat fishing in the traditional Irish lough (or Scottish loch) way the boat is set to float side onto the wind and the flies are cast in front of the boat and retrieved so that they are given some (small) movement in the water.

| Hi Madjoni There is nothing wrong with that; more importantly I am sure it will catch trout in Ireland.

| Hi Madjoni
Ireland has a large number of lakes - some of them are very big and located in limestone areas.
I am sure your flies will catch fish on Irish loughs or on the lake in your photograph.

| Hi Majoni They look pretty good. It's almost impossible to obtain picric acid here in the UK, a retired chemist lecturer friend tells me it is unstable when dry and can explode! So take care when handling it for dying your fly tying Materials. You need all your fingers to tie flies.
The grizzle hackles are dyed a very nice color - I've got one left heron feather that has been dyed with picric acid many years ago the herl is great for tying olive patterns - wish I could get some more.
Herons are also now protected in the UK, so the natural gray herl is also not available from commercial sources, luckily I still have a decent stock of un-dyed feathers - great for the Kite's Imperial fly.
The trout season started today on my local river - despite the cold wind and fished for an hour and had a couple of fish, will be sending out a FOTD later.
You still have the four weeks to go.
